Learn how The UPS Store can help you achieve your dreams of owning a business.
It’s a brand new year, and a brand new decade. If you resolved to ditch the job that’s dragging you down and be your own boss, this could be the perfect time to explore opening a franchise business. At The UPS Store, we help entrepreneurs achieve their goal of business ownership by providing everything new franchise owners need to get up and running, and ultimately, grow their business. Our variety of location types to choose from, flexible financing options, site selection assistance and comprehensive training help new franchisees get started off on the right foot.
The UPS Store has consistently been one of the top franchise brands according to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Annual Franchise 500 list and has been named the best brand in the “Postal, printing, communications and business services” category for 30 straight years. Backed by over 35 years of experience, our proven business model has helped thousands of committed and highly-motivated entrepreneurs open their own franchise business.
Small business owners and consumers alike need reliable shipping and delivery services they can count on. Our locations offer a full range of packaging and shipping options including domestic and international shipping, freight services and even packaging and moving supplies. The UPS Store franchisees also support small business by providing essential services like professional printing, direct mail solutions and mailbox services.
All this and more can be provided at a traditional location, like you’ve probably seen in a metropolitan shopping center, or at one of our newer non-traditional store models. The UPS Store has franchise business opportunities in places you might not expect like hotels and convention centers, military bases, colleges and universities and even within small retail stores. Our store in store concept allows owners of existing retail businesses to expand their services, and their customer base, by opening a The UPS Store center inside their store. This model is especially valuable in smaller communities that may not have access to critical business services.
Actually, The UPS Store encourages franchise development in smaller, rural areas. Our Main Street franchise model was designed as a low-cost option to help bring much-needed services to rural markets by offering a reduced fee and significant savings on other initial expenses. Opening a franchise business like The UPS Store in a small community allows you to provide high-quality products and services backed by an award-winning brand with a personal touch.
Not only is The UPS Store among the top franchise brands, we are also one of the best values offering a very competitive pricing model for franchise fees. These fees vary based on the store type, size and location. To top it all off, we even offer a variety of financing options, including special programs and discounts for veterans.
By partnering with Guidant Financial, we’re able to provide the best franchise loan options for potential franchisees. Because Guidant Financial has a deep understanding of our franchise business, models and operating systems, they can offer a variety of funding options specifically suited to meet the needs of prospective The UPS Store franchisees. Some of the more popular financing options include 401(k) business funding, SBA loans, portfolio loans and unsecured loans. Finding the best way to finance opening a franchise business that takes your goals, background and financial situation into consideration can help eliminate many of the pitfalls first-time business owners encounter. At The UPS Store, we want to help all of our franchisees get started on the right track and also provide help along the way like tax break tips to help you save and become even more profitable. We also proudly support active and former military members by offering $10,000 off our standard franchise fee, which includes 50 percent off the initial application fee to qualified veterans.
The UPS Store is continually expanding and has available markets across the country. We work closely with qualified prospective franchise owners to assist in finding the best location for their center based on their preferences, available markets and the company’s overall franchise system expansion goals and site selection criteria. A local representative from The UPS Store franchise development team will provide market research from our Real Estate Development Department to aid in site selection. Factors such as parking availability, foot traffic and competition help evaluate the business potential of a proposed location. Although we must approve the location of all new centers, the final decision rests with the owner.
Once the proper location has been determined and the site has been secured, we’ll help you plan and build out your store using a prototype floor plan, design criteria and other specifications for construction. We’ll also provide an equipment list, including the necessary computer system, and assist with ordering and installation.
The size of new stores vary, depending on the location type, market, building requirements, lease terms, etc. but most traditional locations average between 1,200 and 1,400 square feet. Store in store locations require 300-550 square feet of dedicated space within the host retail store.
For owners who prefer to skip the set-up when opening a franchise business, we also have a number of existing The UPS Store locations for sale that are ready for business under new ownership.
Our goal is to have every franchisee comfortable and confident before opening day. That’s why in addition to helping new franchisees build out their center, The UPS Store offers a comprehensive training program. Our four-phase approach was awarded the PEAK Performance Award by The American Society for Training and Development. It consists of online training to provide new owners a solid foundation of store operations, product knowledge and business acumen. An interactive 9-day business and printing services workshop focuses on marketing, human resources, operations, financial management and print services training. In addition, new owners spend a total of two weeks working at a The UPS Store Certified Training Center for hands-on, in-store experience with operations, technical systems and print services.
Our support doesn’t end once a new franchise business opens its doors. If our franchisees are successful, we’re successful; and that makes the entire brand stronger. We provide ongoing support and guidance so even though each The UPS Store is locally owned and operated, our owners are never in business alone. In fact, our whole franchise network is rooted in a sense of family with collaboration and camaraderie among franchise owners.
